From one of the region’s largest cycling events and group rides all along the Trail to helmet giveaways and repair clinics, there's something for everyone!

Wellness FUN Fair & Bike Rodeo - May 3rd

Get ready to roll into a day of fun and wellness! We’re teaming up with Charles City Public Schools and the Bicycle Co-op of Williamsburg for a Wellness Fun Fair and Bike Rodeo you won’t want to miss! Join us from 10 am to 1 pm at Charles City High School for bike safety checks, free helmets with custom fittings, a cool obstacle course, exciting bike raffles, and family-friendly games. Whether you're pedaling through the course or just stopping by for the fun, there’s something for everyone!

2025 Pedal the Parkway - May 3rd
The National Park Service invites the public to bike, walk, or jog along a 7-mile portion of the Colonial Parkway on May 3 from 7am to 1 pm. The NPS will close the Colonial Parkway to vehicle traffic between Route 199/Kingspoint and Route 359/Jamestown Settlement. Indoor restrooms are available at the Jamestown Island Visitors Center.  Free parking is available at the Jamestown Settlement. Please note that entrance fees/passes are required.

BikeWalk Williamsburg’s Bikes Out of Hibernation - May 3rd

Get that neglected bike out of your garage and get it ready for Spring! Join BikeWalk Williamsburg, Williamsburg Area Bicyclists, Jamestown Settlement, and James City County Parks & Recreation on Saturday, May 3rd from 9 AM to 1 PM at the Jamestown Settlement parking lot. Local bike shops will be on site to provide free safety checks and minor adjustments. Then take your bike for a spin on the adjacent Virginia Capital Trail or the Colonial Parkway, which will be closed to motor traffic! NO REGISTRATION - just come on down!

20th Milestone Cap2Cap presented by Dominion Energy - May 9th & 10th

Celebrate Bike Month with your Cap2Cap community on May 9th & 10th. Ride the Virginia Capital Trail and enjoy a Party Celebration (open to the whole community) at Chickahominy Riverfront Park in Williamsburg on Friday, May 9th, or at Dorey Park in Henrico on Saturday, May 10th! Riders will be supported by SAG & tech support, five rest stops, and will receive a limited-edition Cap2Cap t-shirt, water bottle, drawstring bag, lunch, beverage ticket, and more.

Ditch the traffic and enjoy the ride! Bike to Work Day is your chance to kickstart your morning with fresh air, exercise, and community spirit. Join the movement for a more sustainable commute and discover how fun and freeing your ride to work can be!

Cap Trail Summer Challenge - May 16th to September 8th
Make the most of the sunny season by taking on the Cap Trail Summer Challenge! Choose your distance goal and run, walk, bike, skate, handcycle—or even dance—your way to an active summer on the Virginia Capital Trail.

Challenge Options:

  • 51.7 miles: Complete the entire Trail by passing each mileage post—whether in one go or a little at a time.

  • 103.4 miles: Double the distance! Cover all 51.7 miles of the Trail and complete the rest however and wherever you like.

  • 517 miles: Celebrate the Trail’s upcoming 10th birthday by logging 10 times its length. Just be sure to pass every mile post at least once.

The Challenge runs on the honor system—but why miss a chance to experience all 51.7 scenic miles of the Trail?

Rock the Outdoors with Dominion Riverrock - May 16th to 19th

Family Fun Fest - May 17th

James City County Parks and Recreation is hosting their Family Fun Fest on May 17th, 11 am to 3 pm, at Chickahominy Riverfront Park. Cost is $10 per car. The annual event is designed to entertain, enrich, and educate the entire family! Featured events include: arts and crafts, inflatables, costume characters, health and wellness activities, and a group ride!

Cap Trail 101 with Riverfront Cruises - May 22nd

Join us for a relaxing riverfront cruise along the James River and Kanawha Canal from 6 pm to 7 pm on Thursday, May 22nd. Get a front-row seat to the Trail for this informative talk, starting with the early beginnings of the Trail into the current day. There will be some historical context, some non-profit programming knowledge, and so much more!

Cap Trail Ambassador Training - May 29th

Trail Ambassadors are the eyes and ears on the Cap Trail who go on regular trail patrols to observe and report maintenance issues as well as check on trail-users. They also attend outreach and educational events to spread the word about the Trail! Learn more about this amazing program and meet some of our stellar Trail Ambassadors!

Pizza + Beer Ride on the Cap Trail - June 4th

Cycling! Pizza! Beer! Come on out for a fun and leisurely out-and-back group ride on the Capital Trail in celebration of 2025 RVA Bike Month. The ride will last about an hour: You will ride at your own pace for about 30 minutes before turning around on the Trail to return to Triple Crossing Brewery! Easy peasy!
