update: The Flooding at MM 50 (near Vulcan) in Henrico County has Receded Leaving Mud and Rocks

The flooding has receded, however, that section of the Capital Trail has mud and rocks covering the trail. Please use caution!

Trail Closure in the Richmond Section (MM 51.2 - MM 51.7) Between April 29th - May 3rd

A small section of the Capital Trail will be closed in the City of Richmond between MM 51.2 and MM 51.7, just west of the railroad crossing near Great Shiplock Park, for repair work from April 29th to May 3rd from 7:30 am to 6:00 pm.

The construction of Charles City's Market 5, located at MM 20, is underway.
The Market 5 project will be the first of its kind in Virginia that will utilize shipping containers as retail space and cooking facilities. The project is expected to launch additional economic development in Charles City.”

 

construction at Four Mile Creek Trailhead (MM 40)

Four Mile Creek Trailhead (MM 40) in Henrico will soon have restroom and water facilities! Construction of the facilities is ongoing. During construction, a small portion of the parking area at Four Mile Creek will be closed. The Capital Trail will remain open throughout the construction period. Construction is anticipated to be completed in May 2024.

Construction has begun on the new James River Association's education center near Great Shiplock Park! Plans include a reroute of the Virginia Capital Trail off of Dock St. Please use caution. The grand opening is slated for summer 2024.

 

bridge deck work scheduled for early 2025

The bridge deck just west of MM 3 is scheduled to get an epoxy overlay. The estimated timeframe is Jan/Feb 2025.
