TEMPORARY CLOSURE: SMALL SECTION OF THE CAPITAL TRAIL NEAR MM 51.5 (RICHMOND)

Trail Alert Update (8/14): A short section of the Capital Trail beneath the train trestle near Mile Marker 51.5 remains closed while repairs continue following the July 3 freight train derailment. Crews are working to repair the overhead canopy that was removed to allow CSX to safely remove the derailed train cars from the canal. Repairs are ongoing, and we do not yet have an updated reopening timeline. We will share an update as soon as more information is available. For your safety and the safety of workers on-site, please follow all closure signs and do not cross caution tape.

Thank you to DPW crews, CSX, the City of Richmond, and everyone working to repair the canopy and restore Trail access.

* A freight train derailed above the Capital Trail near Mile Marker 51.7 at Dock Street and 21st Street on Friday, July 3. The train was carrying corn and grain. Repair efforts remain underway.
