Trail section closed for 2-3 Weeks for Bridgework between MM 3 & MM 4 (James City County Section)

VDOT will implement a multi-week closure of the Trail between MM 3 & MM 4 in the Jamestown section to replace the bridge deck and substructure. Work is scheduled to begin on Monday, December 8th. The Trail will be closed from John Tyler Highway, east of Governor’s Landing Rd, to Heritage Landing Rd for approximately 2–3 weeks, weather permitting. There will be no detour available. Crews will install new textured composite decking to improve traction and provide a safer, more reliable surface for pedestrians and cyclists. For a map of the impacted section, please click here.

Increased Trail Traffic - James City County Section (MM 1 - MM 3) on Saturday, 12/13

James City County is hosting its 17th Sleighbell 5k Run on Saturday, December 13th, 2025. The course starts at the Jamestown High School and utilizes the Capital Trail (between MM 1 & MM 3), Powhatan Creek Trail, and the Greensprings Trail.  Please be alert and use caution. Increased Trail Traffic near iNDIAN fIELDS tAvERN (MM 23) on Sunday, 12/14

Indian Fields is hosting a Low-Key Jingle Jog 5k & 10k on Sunday, December 12, from 8 am to 11 am. Runners and walkers will take the new connector at Indian Fields and run an out-and-back on the Capital Trail between MM 23 & MM 26. Please be alert and use caution. Increased Trail Traffic near Jamestown Trailhead (MM 0) on Saturday, 12/20

Billsburg Brewery is hosting a Jingle Jog 5k & 1 Mile on Saturday, December 20, from 9:30 am to 11:30 am. Runners and walkers will start at Billsburg Brewery and run an out-and-back on the Capital Trail between MM 0 & MM 2. Please be alert and use caution. Best of luck to all the runners/walkers!

Lighting Installation Planned for 2025 near mm 51 (Rocketts Landing)

Self-sustaining lighting will be installed along the Capital Trail throughout the Rocketts Landing area (between MM 50 - MM 51) for increased pedestrian safety. Installation timeframe TBA.
