Itinerary

If you are looking for an easy lunch trip along the Virginia Capital Trail this is for you. Park in the Great Shiplock Park lot and head east on the trail. Enjoy stunning river views along the Richmond Riverfront phase of the trail for the first 2 miles. You’ll pass The Kickstand, a small bike shop with rentals available, as well as Rockett’s Landing – a Richmond hub for art, history, food, and entertainment. As you approach mile marker 49, just .2 miles north of the trail is the Clarke-Palmore House Museum. This house, purchased by John Clarke, was built beginning in 1819 and is open for tour by appointment. Continue along the now Varina Park phase of the trail and, if needed, stop for refreshments at the 7-11 just east of mile marker 48. Finally, just east of mile marker 45 you will see Ronnie’s BBQ across the street. Ronnie’s opens at 11am daily Tuesday – Sunday and serves great Southern-Style BBQ in a timely manner. Enjoy your meal and when you’re ready hop on your bike and head back to the Great Shiplock Park trailhead.
