How long is the trail?

The trail traverses approximately 51.7 miles and four jurisdictions (City of Richmond, Henrico County, Charles City County, James City County). The western terminus trailhead is located at Great Shiplock Park in Richmond, Virginia, and the eastern terminus trailhead is located at the Jamestown Settlement in Williamsburg, Virginia.

Is there parking along the trail?

Yes. While there are many areas to park along the trail, the trail consists of nine main access points which include: Great Shiplock Park, Dorey Park, Four Mile Creek, Herring Creek, Charles City Courthouse, Chickahominy Riverfront Park, Mainland Farm, Jamestown High School, and Jamestown Settlement. Please note that not all parking is overnight. You can check out the online trail map as well as a downloadable map for more information.

What kind of surface is the trail?

The trail is paved from trailhead to trailhead and is completely separated from all roads.

What time does the trail open/close?

The trail is open 24/7. If you do choose to use the trail at night, be mindful that people live along the trail as your voice carries.

Where can I find a map of the trail?

There is an online map of the trail as well as a downloadable pdf map that you can print and bring with you.

Does inclement weather close the trail?

No.

Is the trail safe for young kids and families?

The trail is designed for all ages and abilities and is appropriate for families. Following trail rules will help you have a safe and fun adventure whether you are walking, running, skateboarding, biking or some other non-motorized activity. See below for family friendly itineraries.

Will my cell phone work on the trail?

Yes, your cell phone should work on the trail. However, some locations may have spotty reception depending on your carrier.
