September 2010:
Big Success With Evening Receptions! The VCT F sends a sincere thank you to the sponsors of our two September fundraising receptions. These events were tremendously successful because of their generosity. Balliceaux and The Williamsburg Winery both provided beautiful venues at a cost that made it doable for us. Thom Suddeth and his Carytown Bicycle Company and Road Runner Running Storegave $500 as did BikeBeat and Virginia Ventures. Thank you to our biggest reception sponsors! See the list below for everyone else whose contributions were part of our success.
And thank you to everyone who came out and supported us! (By the way, if you paid with cash and did not leave your name, please email us so we can properly thank you!) Each reception drew over one hundred attendees, and everyone enjoyed meeting fellow supporters and Foundation staff and board members. If you missed them, stay tuned. We will be having many more, since they've become so popular. If you're interested in hosting such an event, feel free to contact us at: info@virgi

05/08/10 - 2010 Cap2Cap ride was a HUGE success!
Another fun, intense, exhausting, thrilling, fullfilling day of supporting the cause through (sort of) serious cycling and volunteering is behind us. Once again, riders turned out in record numbers: 1,600 participants registered for the 2010 event! That's an 11% increase over last year's numbers, with the 50-mile ride growing the most. We think that means lots of first time riders, which means good things for the
future of the ride. Funds from the ride will be used for upcoming projects like a Richmond trailhead facility, signs in Charles City, advocacy work in the areas where new phases are being built, and continued promotion and community outreach. Thank you everyone for supporting our work!

12/17/2009 - Governor Tim Kaine officially opens the Richmond Phase of the Virginia Capital Trail

A crowd of over 150 people gathered in Richmond today for the official opening of the riverfront section of the Virginia Capital Trail. Governor Tim Kaine, Richmond Mayor Dwight Jones, Secretary of Transportation Pierce Homer and other local dignitaries cut the ribbon, officially marking the opening of the trail section.“Whoever came up with the idea is an absolute genius,” said Mayor Jones, “To connect the two capitals and put them together as a place that people could ride and walk to is absolutely amazing. I predict people will come from all over America… (to ride the trail).” Governor Kaine spoke of the benefits of the trail as, “A great asset for the region and Virginia,” as well as the health benefits citizens gain when they exercise and lead healthier lifestyles. Kaine announced that the Capital Trail had been a priority during his administration and used the ceremony as an opportunity to announce that the trail is fully funded.
